INTERNET : CHILDREN TAKE RISKS ON SOCIAL NETWORKS, SURVEY SHOWS.
About 25 European countries leave their social account public which includes birthdates, telephone numbers and addresses. This can mean that they are basically putting themselves into danger. Kids in Europe that are under the age of 13 share their profile on facebook which shouldn’t happen. Facebook and few other social networking websites are trying to protect from those kids under 13. Just to be safe some social networking sites have “report abuse” button. It has been recommended that people under 18 shouldn’t share private information and should default it. Social networking sites make sure that no one under-age shares any kind of private information. It is for sure that every networking site has settings. Prevent kids to sign up for any social networking sites.
Calgary turns 'bum heaven' into social success story
Calgary reduces homelessness. Before this happened, thousands of people lived either on the streets or in short term houses. When the homeless people were first counted, there were about 470 people and by the time they got to the year of 2008, numbers of people were increased to about 3,700 people. The growth of homelessness has dropped. Calgary is the first major city to offer the homeless for support. Two years later due to stable economy and high unemployment the homelessness rate went upward. Toronto came up with a plan to reduce homelessness in Toronto but in order to reach their goal they need about $484 million a year. Government and foundation have really helped to reduce homelessness in Calgary. Homeless numbers are reduced in lots of cities in Alberta like Lethbridge, Edmonton, etc. If the economy is poor, homelessness increases. Thousands of houses are created in Alberta for all the homeless people in Alberta.
Recycling in a city full of glass trash.
Women named April Lai spends about two and half hours in public trash collection in Hong Kong. She collects beer bottles, wine bottles, jam jars, etc. People in Hong Kong support her by providing her with tons of glass. She gets some volunteers to drop off all the glass at a factory called Tiostone where all the paving stones are made. This factory got about 100, 000 tons of glass waste and used 4, 000 tons of glass to make Hong Kong sidewalks. The whole Hong Kong is helping Tiostone factory to collect glass to make their country even more eco-friendly. Many countries in Asia can’t keep their pace in progress in their economic growth. Hong Kong has improved their overall recycling rate. It’s less expensive to make glass than to convert old glass in to new container. In Hong Kong people are producing more and more garbage every year. This means that Hong Kong is way more wasteful than all the developed societies. Ms. Lai said that people of Hong Kong need to take this seriously. This green glass green program was stopped by the government because of the bars in Hong Kong would not take this seriously. In 2010 Tiostone got an order to make bricks using recycled material but they didn’t have enough glass to make bricks to it took effect. So the things are moving very slow.
